During our call last night, we started to talk about the need for a Kickstarter campaign. Even with all the calls in the world, I don’t think that I can accurately describe Odessa – and Charlie, for that matter – without visiting the place he calls home.
The Kickstarter campaign will raise money to cover a trip or two to Odessa, and it will also cover some of the costs to market the book and self-publish it. At this point, I think that self-publishing is the way to go. Twenty years ago, I think we could have shopped the book around to publishing houses and possibly gotten some interest. Things have changed, though; no one seems to publish normal books anymore. You have to already have a big name in order to get noticed.
The only problem we’ll have with the Kickstarter campaign is the video portion. Charlie is obviously in Texas and I’m in Virginia. I’m thinking that we’ll have to work around our geographical barriers by doing some sort of animated video. We’ll see… animation is tough – and expensive.
I can’t wait to see Odessa in person. Sherwood Park… the club… the drag… I’m sure my imagination isn’t doing these places justice.
Say a prayer for me,
K. E.
