We started this project by wanting to tell a great story. The whole time, Charlie has been clear that he wants it to be factual. Nothing needs to be embellished when the truth is this crazy.
Last night, we actually decided to stop calling the project a “novel” and to simply call it a “book.” It may seem like semantics, but it more accurately describes what we’re trying to do.
One thing I would like to report in the book, in a very respectful way, is what truly happened to Carmen that night – according to the facts. Everyone has their own version of what transpired, and I think it’s important to set the record straight. People shouldn’t play “the telephone game” with someone’s life; it makes Carmen seem like a character instead of a real person.
She deserves more than that.
She also deserves justice.
Say a prayer for me,
K. E.
