We spoke to another source last night. He was a detective back in the ’90s for Ector County.

He said that while he was there, they had a Public Relations Officer who was in charge of faxing information to the media in the form of official press releases. There were reporters, of course, with sources within the department – but even those sources were high-ranking.

If they weren’t, they wouldn’t have been trusted.

This confirms our suspicions regarding the radio reports; they had to have originated somewhere pretty high-up within the Sheriff’s Office.

Since the source wasn’t at the Sheriff’s Office during the time of the murder, he didn’t know much about Carmen’s case. He did say that there was just a general “consensus” around town that Charlie was a suspect… even though he never was.

The source said that we need to file some open records requests to try to answer some of our questions. There is no statute of limitations on murder in Texas, but we may be able to get some useful information.

He brought up an interesting point: If Carmen was kidnapped from the club, the city police department would have checked into it because the club was within city limits. I don’t think anyone reported her missing, but it’s a lead worth following-up on.

Say a prayer for me,

K. E.

  1. You should know your facts before you speak. Kristen HAS in fact been to Odessa. She also has hundreds of hours of phone interviews with people who in fact DID grow up in Odessa. All your comment does is prove your ignorance of the whole book writing process.
