George Foreman Fight

We took a break from our typical murder discussions last night and had a little fun talking about Charlie’s fight with George Foreman.

While Foreman was working on his comeback, he approached Charlie’s manager – whom he knew personally – about fighting Charlie. Charlie’s manager asked Charlie what he thought, and Charlie’s response was, “Heck, yeah! Let’s go!”

On July 9, 1987, Foreman gave a small-town Texas boy the opportunity to stand in the ring with one of the sport’s greatest fighters.

Charlie calls Foreman a “puncher deluxe.” He said that Foreman was the most powerful boxer he ever faced. Foreman knocked Charlie down in the third round and the referee decided that Charlie had had enough – so it was ruled a TKO.

On a side note, Charlie says that it’s amazing that he has all of his faculties after his career. He was only knocked out three times over the years, but the constant physical abuse can do a number on your mind and body.

He was honored to be in the ring with Foreman. Not every opponent Charlie faced was a stand-up person – but Foreman was.

I think we’ll send Foreman a copy of the book once we’re done. He’ll get to see all of the amazing things that the small-town Texas boy has accomplished.

Say a prayer for me,

K. E.
