Emergency

During our call last night, we started off by talking about how we’ll have to change some names in the book. It seems that many of the law enforcement officials that were involved in Ector County Sheriff’s Office back then don’t want to be named – though most are happy to speak to us.

We also went into that solid alibi that I mentioned before – the reason why Charlie was never an official suspect in Carmen’s murder. He was helping take trash out that night at the club. As he was throwing a bag over into the dumpster, it caught on something. He went to push it up from the bottom and a broken beer bottle sliced right through his hand.

One of the bouncers at the club took Charlie to the Emergency Room and he sat there, for hours, and ended up with quite a few stitches. Years later, he found out that the guy who took him to the hospital was actually an undercover police officer from El Paso. Thus, Charlie had a rock-solid alibi for that night.

Ector County Sheriff’s Office did show him pictures of some clothes that were found near Carmen’s body, though, which is odd. Why would they show him photos of evidence if he wasn’t a suspect?

We ended the call by starting to outline some important parts of the book – street fights, Carmen’s death, a movie that Charlie was in…

I found out that Charlie always wanted to be in the 1980 Olympics. The US boycotted the Olympics that year, of course, so I suppose that it just wasn’t meant to be. How cool would that have been, though?

Instead of going to the Olympics, he got a job at the nightclub – just about a year before Carmen’s murder.

Say a prayer for me,

K. E.

    1. deondra , like your dad I was awaiting for the 1980’s Olympic Judo team . California boy moved to Odessa Texas. Met your father. With the two of us having a similar stories about the Olympics we hit it off. Got to watch your father fight live in a boxing match in Odessa Texas. Something that sticks with me to this day your dad is an awesome man.The best times I had was with your father I work security with him as bouncers I also worked as bartenders in both bars Rocky’s /Gram Central Station And yes I was there The night the young lady went missing working with your father . Words of others can say all they won’t but my eyes and sound of mind know that Charlie has nothing to do with this case . I think of your father often and pray for him and his family. Always keep the faith
